ExonanoRNA, LLC was established in 2017 to spearhead the translation of RNA nanotechnology into an innovative delivery system which is able to improve the therapeutic outcome of patients with infectious diseases and cancers. Our proprietary technology encompasses RNA nanoparticle and exosome-based platforms that allow the integration of multiple modules into one nanoparticle to target delivery of a therapeutic payload solely to diseases cells. Our current efforts are focused on the pre-clinical development of innovative medicines for next-generation targeted drug delivery and disease diagnosis.

1. Research Scientist in exosome engineering

This position works on novel exosome and RNA nanotechnology platform-based therapeutics development. The successful candidate will be responsible for upstream cell culture, downstream exosome purification, and the therapeutics loading process.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Independently design and execute cell culture experiments related to the development, scale-up, and characterization of the cell culture process
  • Establish linkage between upstream bioreactor parameters or media conditions to exosome yield and quality attributes
  • Purify exosomes from the cell culture medium using ultracentrifugation or related method, and related process development and optimization
  • Independently design and carry out in vitro assays for drug candidates under development on cell level and physiochemical property studies
  • Hands-on experimentation for mice models
  • Communicate effectively through written and oral means. Manage and maintain process data in an organized manner, this includes writing/revising SOPs, authoring technical reports, and tech transfer documents, and preparing scientific presentations as needed
  • Participate and drive decision-making within the project team by actively engaging in and leading scientific and technical discussions

Desired Education and Skills Requirements:

  • Training in cell biology or pharmaceutical science or related field, especially miRNA discovery studies
  • Can operate cell culture independently (mammalian cell lines)
  • Understand and can operate in vitro assay at the cell level (ELISA, qPCR, Western Blot, MTT Assay)
  • Has experience with ultracentrifuge or Extracellular Vesicles research
  • Has hands-on experience with animals

Required Qualifications:

  • MS or Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Pharmaceutical Science, or related experience is required
  • Experience with exosome research is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
  • Good laboratory skills relating to cell culture
  • Good record-keeping skills and experience with SOP and GLP
  • Flexibility in workload, hours, and job duties to achieve team objectives
  • Positive attitude, great work ethic, and ambition be an active listener and open to constructive feedback and suggestions

2. Research Scientist in oligo synthesis and purification

This position provides oligos for customers and internal research use, as well as modified oligos with drug conjugation for research project.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Synthesize oligos, deprotect the oligo after synthesis, and desalt oligos with FPLC methods
  • Crude Oligo purification and submission for QC (PAGE, HPLC, MS)
  • Synthesize modified drugs
  • The chemical reaction to finish oligo modification
  • Maintain oligo and nanoparticle storage, and reorder supplies to maintain inventory functionally

Desired Education and Skills Requirements:

  • MS or Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry or related field 
  • 0-2 years in organic synthesis R&D work experience 
  • Practical knowledge of RNA /DNA synthesis 
  • Capability to be a technical leader of a scientific project
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Rigorous analytical approach to problem-solving
  • Experience in GLP laboratory setting and data collection

3. Administrative Associate 

This position performs general administrative duties, such as tracking payments and account balances, handling invoices and purchase orders, maintaining the company website and social media accounts, and assisting with event organization and high-level correspondence on behalf of managers.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Receive new invoices and records them in Quickbooks and the Accounts Payable Excel Sheet
  • Create and send out purchase orders for the company
  • Updating the products receivable excel sheet once receive the order confirmation
  • Receive package slips when a new package arrives and update the products receivable excel sheet
  • Scan physical copies of completed project batch records and save the digital copy on our online server
  • Prepare financial documents to send to the company’s shareholders

Desired Education and Skills Requirements:

  • BS in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or related
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar senior administrative role
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Experience in payroll administration would be advantageous
  • Experience in managing payments and expenditures
  • Ability to manage office operations and oversee junior staff
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and execute office-related events
  • Knowledge of administrative recordkeeping practices
  • Experience in handling confidential and sensitive information

4. Research Associate in Oligo Production and Exosome Engineering 

In this role, you will be responsible for (1) supplying oligos to both our customers and for internal research purposes and working on the modification of oligos through drug conjugation for research projects; and (2) developing therapeutics based on exosome and RNA nanotechnology platforms, with responsibilities in upstream cell culture, downstream exosome purification, and the therapeutics loading process.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Synthesize, deprotect, and desalt oligonucleotides, with proficiency in operating Oligonucleotide synthesizers like Mermade 12 and OligoPilot 100.
  • Utilize high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to purify oligonucleotides and conduct quality control analyses using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Experience in preparing samples for mass spectrometry, operating analytical and preparative HPLC as a bonus.
  • Perform organic chemical reactions, specifically employing click chemistry, for oligo modification.
  • Oversee the storage management, as well as coordinate supply reorders as necessary.
  • Design and execute cell culture experiments to support process development activities.
  • Employ ultracentrifugation techniques to purify exosomes from cell cultures.
  • Conduct in vitro assays for drug candidate testing and perform physiochemical studies as required.
  • Participate in hands-on experiments involving mouse models as dictated by research needs.
  • Effectively communicate research findings through written and oral means
  • Proficiency in document preparation using LaTeX is a valuable skill.
  • Possess data analysis capabilities, utilizing programming languages such as Python and R.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, Cell Biology, or related.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with, and hands-on experience in, oligonucleotide synthesis and purification.
  • Exhibit proficiency in conducting in vitro assays and conducting studies on physiochemical properties.
  • Display excellent organizational skills, characterized by meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment.

5. Executive Consultant for preclinical and early clinical development

ExonanoRNA, LLC, a spin-off company from The Ohio State University, is seeking an executive level consultant for preclinical and early clinical development. We are open to converting this position to a full-time executive position for candidates who share the same passion about our technology.

ExonanoRNA is focused on RNA nanoparticles which is a type of nanoparticles by using RNA as scaffolds for chemical drug delivery or small RNA delivery. RNA nanoparticles show a unique pharmacological profile and excellent safety profiles compared to other nanoparticles or bioconjugates. It can be well designed to reduce immune system stimulation to undetectable levels and allows repetitive dosing regimen. The optimal size of RNA nanoparticles ensures its accumulation in the tumor but fast clearance in other tissues. Following the success of the RNA vaccine, we truly believe the value of RNA in treating human diseases. We are determined to move RNA nanoparticles into clinics to address unmet medical needs.

Since the inception of ExonanoRNA, LLC 2017, we’ve built a mature production line for RNA nanoparticles. Our customers are spreading across 35+ high profile research organizations or pharmaceutical companies from the US, such as Mayo Clinic, NIH, Duke University, City of Hope, United Therapeutics, Vertex etc. Our current focus is to move several drug candidates into IND for treating metastatic cancers. Primary Responsibilities include:

This position will provide consulting services for platform building, strategic planning, portfolio management and operational oversight of pre-clinical development programs.

  • Supervise platform building and strategic planning
  • Support decision making for portfolio management
  • Help building up relationship with investors and big pharma
  • Support fundraising preparation
  • Supervise IND experiment design, CMC production building and IND filing

Qualifications:

  • Degree in scientific/life-sciences field. MD, Pharm.D., or Ph.D. is required
  • Minimum of 25 years of experience in research with at least 15 or more years of drug development experience is required
  • Executive level experience in biotech or pharma companies is preferred
  • 10 years Oncology therapeutic area experience are preferred
  • Prior bioconjugates or nanotechnology based drug delivery experience a plus
  • Experience with small RNA for cancer treatment a plus
  • Passionate about novel therapeutic modality development
